SEO for Greater Image Exposure

SEO for Greater Image Exposure

[Lens4anEye]

Your SEO status is important for getting strangers to see your photography. Search Engine Optimization is the holy grail of online marketing.

SEO is something you can do yourself or pay someone to do for you. Promoters promise a lot of results if you pay up front for their work. It is easy for them to make claims and difficult for you to determine if they are worth the costs.

In short, if you are paying any amount to a promotion site to increase your ClickaSnap visibility, it will probably be too much. If someone charges $100 for SEO improvements you would need 14,285 paid-views (at the Uploads+ subscription) to break even. At the typical ratio of 40% conversion you would need to get 35417 total views. With 100 images each would need 354 views.

There are many things you can do yourself for no money if you put in your time. Facebook pages are free. Twitter accounts are free. Instagram, tumblr and Pinterest accounts are free. Blogs as through Google’s Blogspot are free.

The effort you put into any of those platforms needs to point to many of your images.  Posting one picture on any site will get you one view and there is no guarantee in will be 5-seconds or longer.

Categorizing your images in Albums lets you post a link to the entire album where they all will be displayed for visitors to view. The trick is how to get people who know nothing about you to be presented with your work.

Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, et al will eventually get indexed by Google and other search engines. Your pictures will eventually get into their databases and their algorithm will return your postings. They might be down on page 4 or lower and rarely be seen. Getting yourself on page 1 or 2 is important. Consider how far you personally will scroll down. Everyone is about the same.

Blogs need text to go with images. Blog posts need hot links to related content even if it only your own stuff. Google needs to “find” your content by looking at other places which link to you. Google will find Blogspot content very fast because it is part of Google itself. They know it exists the moment the Publish button is pressed. Therefore a Blogspot blog is a good source of web exposure.

Bloggers need lots of regular content to keep their place in front of the eyes of readers. Becoming a contributor for other bloggers’ blogs helps them as it helps you. That also means you don’t have to create new material every day.
