ClickaSnap Image Views vs Sales and Downloads

In every set of uploaded images the photographer has high hopes of “making a sale” whether it is a Print, a Download or merely a Paid-view.

Not all pictures are suitable for all three classifications. The highest number of photos by all subscribers combined are of the “view” quality and character type. The best criterion to apply is whether you think someone would hang the picture on their wall.

The price does not enter that equation. If it will not make an improvement to the buyer’s decor, even a free print will go unclaimed.

Downloads are a bit different in the buyer can print the image on their own media. That media might include their computer screen as a wallpaper or for smaller phone or tablet screen.

Landscape oriented images work well for PC, Mac and laptop screens. They do not fit well on phones and tablets. The opposite for portrait orientations is what will work.

Prints can be presented in either orientation without any fuss. The limitations are that 4:3 aspect ratios fit most standard papers without cropping or losing too much of detail at the edges. Other aspects don’t fare as well.

People shoot a lot of Camera-phone images in portrait orientation which leads to significant crop losses when printed. Those pictures actually do well in phone cases and as wallpaper on phone screens.

Doing a pano view maybe a cool shot but it will only fare reasonably well as a triptych or other multi panel renderings. Such images might garner paid views but don’t stand much of a chance with ClickaSnap’s selection of standard papers. A buyer might go the route of buying it as a download and take it to a finisher for custom processing.

When I am uploading my photos I think about if they will ever fit into my Seller’s Shop and which products I feel will have a chance of being purchased.

Probably 90%of my photos are only for online viewing enjoyment. They build my brand and style for potential buyers to regularly return and see what else I add to the collections. The remaining 10% are suitable for print or download with maybe as much as 5% being of the type, style and content someone would hang on their wall or give as a gift.

It’s a numbers game. If I only knew in advance which photos would receive the greatest attention, my collection would be far smaller. But I am always surprised by which older upload catches someone’s attention.

I am pleased to know my photos are getting attention. That is why I do all the work and promotion for such nominal earnings. Once in awhile everything clicks. I did cold visit at a gallery in Baltimore once and ended up with a 13 month show for 21 pictures. My Street Coins were a hit. But that was then. Now I need more exposure like that.

Online galleries are far better than a single picture. With ClickaSnap I can point viewers to an album of related content and get people to look at the Album.
